Anyone starting an internet marketing project needs to conduct keyword research carefully to discover the most useful keywords associated with the particular niche that is being considered. There are a number of aspects to take into account when evaluating keywords. First, it is important to understand the nature of keywords. Here is a guide which can help with a better understanding of what they are and why they are important.

Keywords – What Are Keywords?

By Kerrie Sheehan

Starting your own internet business is far more than designing and creating a website to sell your products and/or services. Before you do anything you need to find out if people are buying your products online and more importantly how they will find your website to buy your products. Just having a website is only part of the story of making money online.

It is equally importantly that you know what your competition is selling. Is it possible for you to be able to successfully compete with them and maybe even do better than them? In the offline world it quite easy to work this out as all you have to do is watch your competition but this is not possible in the online world.

Then again maybe it is by doing some research into online activity. You have to find out how people are finding the websites of your competition by being able to access what they are searching for online.

People usually use the internet to search for information to answer questions about their problems and/or desires. It is not uncommon for people to turn to the internet for answers when they have not been able to find the answers elsewhere. So what you have is people who are desperate for information and answers about their most pressing problems. They want them solved so are more than willing to pay for a solution.

So how do these people go about finding the answer to their questions online?

These days lots of internet users rely upon the search engines like Google, Bing and Yahoo to help them search for solutions. However there are virtually hundreds of these search engines available for people to use but the top ones generate the majority of the traffic. It is therefore a good idea to concentrate on these top search engines to find out what people are searching for in regard to your products and/or services.

What are Keywords?

When a person uses a search engine they type in a word or more likely a phrase about their problem or what topic they want information about. These are keywords or keyword phrases. These words or phrases (keywords) are what you need to know so that you can design your website to target these thereby capturing some of this search engine traffic. The more targeted your website is to what people are searching for the more likely you are to generate sales.

How do search engines and keywords work?

A person might want to improve their golf swing so they type the phrase “improve golf swing” into a Google search. The search results page will show two types of results, paid and organic results. Try it by typing in “improve golf swing” in a Google search.

At the top of your page you will see sponsored links and also have a narrow column down the right hard side with more sponsored links. These are paid results where merchants have paid Google to list these results on search result pages for their keyword “improve golf swing”.

The rest of the results will be organic results or search results that Google has determined are the most naturally related to the phrase “improve golf swing”. The phrase “improve golf swing” is often referred to as a “keyword term”. You will also see that Google highlights the phase “improve golf swing” throughout the results.

As you can see if you can do some research and find these keyword terms that people search for in relation to your products then you be able to build your website to maximize your business opportunities from search engine traffic.

This means Google will determine your website to be naturally related to certain keyword terms you have optimized your website for and thus list you in their organic search results. The closer you can get to the top of the search engine results for your keyword terms the more traffic you will get to your website.

Also after you identify the keywords that are applicable to your products and/or services you can also launch a paid advertising campaign and have your website listed in the paid results as well as the organic results thereby dominating the search results for those keywords.

However one must be aware of the level of competition for some keywords and not pay too much for them as it is very easy, especially for new advertisers, to end up spending more money than they get back in product sales.

New website owners may want to wait until they have a more established website with results in the organic search listings before attempting paid advertising because they will then know that their keywords work. Just do keyword research and optimise your website for them until you see that they are working for you.

Keywords are vital to the success of your online business. Knowing the keywords relevant to your business and optimizing your website for them will mean more traffic to your website and thus more product sales. For more information about making money online http://www.kerriesheehan.com

Wordpress SEO Plugins – Platinum SEO Vs All in One SEO

The ability to automatically do on-page SEO for blogs is an important, time-saving exercise and two of the most popular plugins for this are All-In-One SEO and Platinum SEO. Many Wordpress blog owners have wondered about the differences and whether they have made the right choice. Here is one user’s view and his comparisons. Platinum SEO Vs All in One SEO For WordPress Websites

By Delwin Holeman

WordPress has a number of plugins for Search Engine Optimization (SEO). There are two main plugins that most sites use which I’ll discuss in this article. Read on and you’ll come away with a better understanding of which one might be best for bringing more traffic to your dental office website.

Platinum SEO and All in One SEO Pack are the leaders in the SEO Plugin category for WordPress. All in One SEO has been around longer and in fact Platinum SEO was built to function practically the same as All in One SEO. They are almost identical, but Platinum SEO made some important improvements.

So why choose one over the other? Personally I’ve chosen to use Platinum SEO for the following reasons:

  1. Platinum SEO feature a setting to ” Automatically do 301 redirects for permalink changes”. This means that if you change the Permalink of one of your web pages, it will put some code in a special “.htaccess” file that tells Google, other search engines, and any backlink traffic, that the old page URL should now go to the new one.
  2. Perhaps my biggest reason for going with Platinum SEO is that it allows me to give a single page a “noindex” setting to keep search engines away from a page I don’t want listed. ALl in One SEO does not have that feature.
  3. It has a number of other “on-page” settings and options that All in One lacks, which gives you more control for each and every page you create. You can leave the basic settings in place so you are not having to set up each page one by one, but if you want to tweak something it’s all right there on your page editing screen.
  4. Okay, this one is a bit nit picky, but it did figure in to my decision to switch. All in One SEO is riddled with advertisements and requests for donations. Nothing wrong with that and almost all plugins do it, but All in One is a bit over board with it.

If you’re already using All in One SEO, Platinum SEO has the ability to migrate all of your current settings into it’s own setup, so you can do a quick and easy migration of your page title tags, page descriptions and keywords.

So in closing, the main reason I made the switch was for the ability to set a single page as “nofollow” to keep search engines from indexing it. Aside from that they are both about the same, and appear to do equally good jobs at SEO.

Targeted Keywords – Most Popular Keywords Or Long Tail?

Targeted Keywords are the backbone of niche marketing and are very important in most forms of internet marketing. Learning which keywords to target is a skill which can and should be learned. The following article offers some useful suggestions in this regard. After you’ve read it, leaving a comment would be helpful to other readers.

—————–

Targeted Keywords – Should You Target the Most Popular Keywords Or the Long Tail?

By Andy Lunt

The vast majority of internet, niche or affiliate marketers are simply concerned with driving traffic to their websites in as large a quantity as possible which then in turn will lead to greater sales. There are different strategies that can be put in place regarding how the chosen keyword phrases are incorporated into articles and copy on the pages of the website.

Many marketers new to the game, will search for the most popular keywords related to their niche and build their page or indeed their site around these keywords. For a novice at internet marketing and SEO this would probably be a mistake. The competition for the most lucrative keywords is bound to be extremely fierce and someone inexperienced is unlikely to be able to get their site high in the rankings and hence very little traffic will be the result.

It is true to say that there will be huge numbers, potentially, of people searching the web for these keyword phrases which are very popular but you really need to try and get ranked on the first page if your site is to glean much traffic from the search engines. Indeed the first two places will take the majority of searches.

In many cases the top ranked sites will be sites which carry high authority. For a newbie to keyword SEO and link building, it would be nigh on impossible to knock these high authority sites of their top spots in the rankings. So what should you do?

The answer for most beginners is to focus on the not so common keyword phrases. Phrases that may receive only a fraction of the searches but, and this is the crucial bit, only have a fraction of the competition. They are known as long tail keywords. Eg. Without a significant SEO campaign you would find it hard to top the rankings as a newbie for a keyword phrase of ‘magic tricks’.

However if you targeted ‘magic tricks explored’ or ‘magic tricks exposed’ the competition will be far easier to rank higher than, in most cases. True enough there may only be a fraction of the searches but if you could get in the top two spots, then those searches could all be yours.

Now if you optimized your site such that each article on your site had a single long tail keyword phrase such as this as its focus, then potentially all your articles could be drawing in some searches and as a result the overall total of visitors could be quite large. This is a very successful ploy by many experienced internet marketers. The sum of all the long tail searches usually exceeds the searches for the most common keywords.

Once you become more skillful with your keyword SEO and how you build back links to your site, you may be able to target keyword phrases which are more lucrative as you will have the skill set to out rank many rivals and potentially build your site’s reputation as an authority site in its own right. You will soon learn if it is possible to take on the top sites for any particular phrase and out rank them.

There are many keyword and SEO tools will you can use to help you deduce if it is worth your while trying to do this. Some SEO tools will tell you the strength of the competition in terms of the number and quality of their back links for example.

Most experienced marketers will therefore target a mixture of long tail keywords and selected popular keywords, constantly fine tuning until the balance is right. If you are just starting out go for the long tail first, leaving the others until you have greater SEO skills.

If you want to know more about keywords and which research tools to use to locate these long tail and lucrative keyword phrases that make you more money, then visit my site at http://www.keyword-selectortool.com. You’ll also find lots of useful tips that I have learned over the years about SEO and keywords.

Seven Elements of Online Success You Must Know

Many people want more info about how to achieve Online Success, so have a look at this. I am often looking for news, articles, and other useful information which helps readers to grow and have a more worthwhile online business. Be sure to have a good look at it all. Don’t forget to add your opinions so everyone can know your comments:

—————–

Do You Know These Seven Elements of Online Success?

If you are like me, then you must have been struggling for some time now, or maybe you are just starting out, in internet marketing. At first, most probably what convinced you to take this step were statements like “make $10,000 in 24 hours” or “quit your regular job by six o’clock tomorrow morning” or any of those other outrageous claims that seem to be flying around on the internet these days.

However, as time goes by and you strive to get over that learning curve, you realize that you have to re-adjust your expectations.

Now, in this article I want to share with you what I consider to be the seven most important elements of online success.

These have come about from my own experience as an internet marketer, as well as from what I have learned from other top marketers, whose work I admire.

These are:

1. Build your own website or blog

I can’t stress enough the importance of having your own website or blog. If you are serious about creating a successful online business which will stand the test of time, then you need to have your own “virtual estate”.

Now, some of you might argue that there is a lot of technical stuff involved and you don’t have the necessary background to accomplish that. Although I would agree with you a couple of years back, now the good news is that things have changed. There are a lot of tools and ready made templates out there, which make building a website or a blog a child’s play.

2. Build your mailing list

You probably heard this before, “the money is in the list”. Now that the internet has grown into such a huge place, people tend to go from one website or blog to the next, not spending too much time on each one. If somebody comes to your site and leaves, then it is most probable that he or she won’t come again.

Therefore, what you can do to give him an incentive to hear your voice, is to offer him a gift, in exchange for his email address. Getting his permission to send him additional high quality messages over time, you greatly increase the likelihood of him trusting you and listening to what you want to offer him next time around.

3. Establish yourself as an expert

As they say, traffic to your website or blog is the lifeblood of your business. With no people coming to your site, there will be no sales, regardless of how fancy and interesting your web design is.

Therefore, what you need to do to be found by both the search engines and people, is to build a lot of high quality content, relevant to your niche. This content might either be apart of your website, articles that point back to it, post on online forums etc.

4. Don’t give up so fast

A common mistake made by aspiring new marketers is that they give up too easy. Most probably due to high expectations set at the beginning of their efforts as they fall victims to excessive hype about fast success, the quickly become disillusioned and quit.

My advice to you is to stick through and you will eventually see success. If you persevere and find some solid advice, then you will definitely make it.

5. Take one step at a time

Another one of the symptoms that new marketers show is called “information overload”. There are so many different methods and techniques to grow your online business (both free and paid), that it is easy to become overwhelmed.

Don’t rush to try everything at once, or juggle many things at the same time. Try one method at a time; master it and then move on to the next one when you are ready.

6. Don’t rush into buying every new “shiny” product

You can’t believe how many products there are out there, all targeting the new marketer. All of them promise that they hold the key to overnight online success.

Whenever you are facing a buying decision, then what you should really ask yourself is whether this helps you in your immediate plans and whether it is very similar with something else that you now own. In case that you see that it does not fit with your short term action plan or there is nothing new to offer to you, then skip it.

7. Don’t expect to become rich overnight

The last thing I want to tell you is that you should be realistic in terms of your expectations. Don’t expect to be able to quit your regular job by tomorrow, not even after a month.

Internet marketing can bring you a considerable income, but only if you invest time and effort. There is no fixed time frame for this; it’s a combination of the amount of effort you put into this, the type of methods you use and of course your target market; attracting people with a “ready to buy” mindset.

My Business’s Online Presence – How Do I Develop It?

I was really pleased to come across something interesting on developing a Business’s Online Presence. As you might expect, much of my time is spent locating suitable articles, videos and other worthwhile content which helps people to grow and have a more worthwhile online business. Be sure to take a look at it all. Don’t forget to add your thoughts so we can all be aware of your opinions:

—————–

How Do I Develop My Business’s Online Presence?

One of the main problems that many companies face is that their online presence is considered to be a separate activity to their offline functions. This can be very difficult for people to comprehend, particularly those which are, shall we say, “long in the tooth!” This can lead to many issues with building an online brand and presence.

There are many companies which will have spent thousands of pounds, dollars or any other currency which you may be able to think of, through the process of building their website. Quite often this will generate a small amount of business for a company and generally people will build their website on the basis that it is the “thing to do” as opposed to having an online strategy.

After a period of time this business platform which they may have built will then go stale. Because it isn’t working at this point, most people will consider their website to be a failure and that will be that. Would you make an investment of several thousand pounds on something else and then let it go stale because it didn’t immediately set the world on fire? Some might, but for the majority probably not.

First lets look at the website itself.

If you have an offline business which you are looking to promote online, what is the purpose of the website? Is it to provide information to your customers about whatever it is that you do? Is it to generate leads? Is it to sell products?

Just asking these simple questions will decide the look and feel of the site, so it may need to be a sales page, or perhaps stacked full of information about your business, with different methods of presenting information, through video, audio and articles. Find some examples of what your competitors are doing. This can provide a clear indication as which type of site you should develop. However, they may have got it wrong of course!

So, lets say that we have understood the type of site that we need, next we look at ways of attracting people to this site:

How are people going to find your website. Lets use this analogy, if you are a restaurant owner and your restaurant is tucked down a side street away from the main road how are people going to know you are there? The internet is very similar.

Clearly you need to tell people that you are there. So, how do you do this?

You can write articles about the types of services and products which you provide. You can demonstrate your expertise through this medium. You could make some videos and post those on video sites.

Your keywords are critical. You need to decide what keywords you want your website to feature for.

Are you going to advertise? If so where. You need to find places which you believe is appropriate for your customers. This might be through using Google advertising, or through other platforms such as Facebook.

You want to try to target the correct audience for your products. What about other people’s websites which are in a similar industry of field? You may easily be able to promote your business for little or no cost through these methods (consider JV’s with any business transacted).

If you consider these factors, this will help you to build a long term online presence. You have to be prepared to make changes to the site from time to time, it needs to be versatile and you need to review it as any other part of your business. This process takes time, but if you adapt a structured approach this will make the process a lot easier.

5 Tips – SEO Friendly Titles

How often do we come across websites that have the same title and descriptions on each and every page? The answer is….hardly. Although this mistake is seen all of the time by those of us who work on Search Engine Optimization (SEO) for a living, those who are searching using search engines will unlikely find your site unless you are spending tons of money on your adword campaign.

If you have 5 pages in your website, and each has the same title and description, you are losing out in 80% of market visibility. Not only is variety important to attract as many potential customers as possible, adding variety to your web page is very easy and it can make your website rise in ranks. The following are 5 tips to help you add variety to your website through effective title and description implementation.

1. First things first, Google and other search engines hate repeat information. Repeat information tells search engines that your site may be a spam site since your descriptions may not coincide with the information provided in each page. You will effectively drop in ranks quickly if you do not solve this issue immediately.

Remember that dropping in ranks is a lot easier than rising in them. This not only applies to your head tags such as your title and descriptions, but also affects your content as well. Look through your site and find which pages look like mirrors of each other, which pages can be deleted, and which can have more variety added to make them unique.

2. If you are working with a template, be effective in how you add your head tags. Be sure your title and descriptions are enclosed inside of an editable region, otherwise, your title and description will not only repeat throughout your site, but you will have a tough time editing them in the future without making a change in your template code, then still having to go back through each page and making the required changes.

3. Your choice of Titles and descriptions should be complemented with keyword research which you can easily do using Google’s free keyword tool. Make sure you incorporate your keywords inside of your title and description and yes….your content too. Be sure to practice good judgment when selecting keywords to make sure you don’t pick overly-competitive keywords.

Although they may work well with your Adword campaign, very competitive keywords should be avoided for organic results. Otherwise, ranking on the first few pages of a search engine result will be close to impossible.

4. Target a different search terms for each page. People don’t always land on your home page. This means you should consider each page in your website as a landing page and provide content accordingly.

You want to give them a short overall idea of what your company is about, providing a link to your home page in case they want to read more about it, but focus the bulk of your content to the search at hand. You want to your visitor’s search relevant.

If they are searching for “liposuction medical procedures,” they want to read about “liposuction medical procedures.” Adding content that they can find in other places of your site may confuse them and they may loose interest.

5. Don’t repeat your company name on your titles unless your company name utilizes searchable key terms. Your titles are amongst the most important tool used by search engines to find your site, so do not fill them with needless information.

Rather choose brief statements that have your keywords incorporated, and that have an enticing marketing message that will make a reader want to click on your site. Unless you are a big, and highly recognized company, chances are that most searchers will not be searching for your company name.

Conversions Increase When You Answer the Questions of Your Target Audience

If you’re interested in how to Increase Conversions, you’ll enjoy this. As you might expect, much of my time is spent locating suitable news, articles, and other helpful information which aids people to grow and have a more profitable online business. Be sure to consider it all. Don’t forget to include your advice so all of us can appreciate your thoughts:

—————–

Increase Conversions by Answering the Questions of Your Target Audience

So many people are concerned with gaining traffic to their websites. They apply the latest techniques and trends hoping to get more eyeballs on their content. Though traffic is essential to success, if those visitors do not convert they will not increase your business profits.

What is the ultimate goal for your website? An internet entrepreneur is ultimately concerned with making money and the only way to earn money is to convert visitors. What are you looking to accomplish with your website? Some people want to acquire leads, others desire sales and some are looking to establish communication through social media channels to build a list. Regardless of the practices, they are seeking to grow their business and the conversion methods will be exactly the same.

What are some steps you can take to increase conversions?

If you desire to attract visitors to your services through a website, you will need to take a look at your website structure. Your main goal is to answer all of your prospect’s questions as quickly as possible. Internet users have a short attention span and the faster you give them answers the more likely they will remain on your site.

You should also monitor your numbers over time. In my “Accelerated Internet Success System”, I teach you why it is important to know your numbers so you don’t lose track of your business. If you do not know what is going on in the present, you will not know where your business is going in the future.

Here are the top two burning questions of your visitors:

1. Can I trust this person? People are very skeptical when searching online because there is no face to face contact and their first thought is, “This is a scam.” Include your personal story, photos of you and your family and whatever else you can to establish some sort of connection. If you show the reader you are exactly like them, they will feel more comfortable. Don’t use words like, “This is not a scam.” This just scares people even more. Display your integrity with your words and images.

2. Can they help me with my problem? To effectively answer this question, you must know the issues of your target audience. You can only solve their problems if you know what they are. Once you determine them, speak about how your services can help them in a non-offensive and “non-hype” way. Display the benefits whether through video, images or words. Images are very effective because they show the reader you are a real person and scammers are notorious for hiding.

If you can effectively answer these questions, your visitors will be compelled to ask you for more information. Remember to try and connect with the demographic that visits your site. If people feel they can trust you and you can help them, there is nothing stopping them from turning into customers.

Keeping this blog current naturally means constantly looking for graphics, videos and other worthwhile information which aids people to build and have a more worthwhile online business. Don’t Make These Home-based Business Mistakes!

So you’ve got the ball rolling on your new home-based business. Congratulations! This is an extremely exciting time.

You’ve got your business plan rolled out, all your merchandise boxes opened, and your books are ready to be filled with the information of potential customers. So now what do you do?

Well, it will depend on the size and type of business when it comes to getting your feet wet, but there is one thing that a lot of new business owners overlook. They are so busy worrying about what to do, that they forget to know what not to do!!

There are so many pitfalls that a lot of people make when starting a new home business, whether they know they are making them or not. Here are the biggest mistakes that most people make, so that you can avoid them and rise above the competition.

The first thing you need to think about is if it is realistically possible to run a business from your home. We aren’t trying to put a damper on your optimism, but some home businesses simply cannot function within the confines of your walls.

Seriously take a look at how much space you will need depending on the size of your products, office supplies, the number of employees you have, and so forth. Once you do this, you might find that your new venture is too big to fit into your home, or that it just might not be the right idea.

You don’t have to give up your dreams, but you can find another home for your new opportunity. There is not only one place that you can succeed!

Second, you need to make sure to get yourself motivated. It is easy for anybody to get distracted with the things that are going on around them.

This is why offices were invented. It is a place where we can go and have no distractions so we can totally focus on the task at hand.

If we didn’t get distracted, then all work would probably be done at home! But, alas, we are humans and our brains are running a mile a minute.

Some distractions you might face could be your kids, the TV, a messy kitchen or dining room, in coming phone calls, and many other things. If you want to be a successful owner and get some solid work done, you need to learn how to motivate yourself and tune these distractions out when needed.

Third, you need to remember to promote your business! Too many people get complacent and they work with the same few clients over and over and not really make any progress.

Explaining your venture to your family and friends will only take you so far, and then you will hit a professional wall. If you really want to see some growth, send out e-mails, go to trade shows or other local events to get your name out there and build on your customer base.

Fourth, make sure to have a professional environment that is friendly to clients, if they need to come to your house. As your operation grows, you will see the need of having a separate business area so that your real living space doesn’t get in the way of your client relations.

It might dampen a deal if a client comes into your home while the kids are screaming, dog is barking, and the TV is blaring. They won’t have a good feeling in their stomach if they have to sit down by a pile of dirty laundry in order to talk to you.

Finally, it is imperative that you read the zoning laws for your area. If you have a very small operation, you may not have problems, but if yours is growing rapidly, you need to be familiar with them.

Many zoning laws might mandate a recreational neighborhood without any hint of a professional venture lurking around. Your operation may be in your home, but it could lead to problems with the city down the road.

Look online for more common mistakes new entrepreneurs make. If you familiarize yourself with them, you will be able to avoid them.

Make Money With Website Flipping

Many people want more info about making money online, so have a look at this article on flipping (selling) websites. Needless to say, I spend a lot of time searching for news, articles, and other beneficial content which aids readers to build and have a more rewarding online business. Be sure to look over it all. Don’t forget to include your opinions so all of us can be aware of your advice:

—————–

Website Flipping Explained

Build or Buy a Website

The first step of the process is to actually get a website. You can do this by either buying a website or by building a website from scratch. If you choose to build a website, the biggest challenge will be getting traffic to the website. If you choose to buy a website, you’ll have to invest upfront cash. Your goal from that point is to increase the revenue so you can sell the site for a profit.

Add Value

The next step is to add value to the website. If you just want to make a few hundred dollars, this can look like you just building a site for someone. Create the design, the page setup and 10-20 original content articles. Then you can sell the site for a few hundred dollars. The reason people will buy the site is because it saves them the time and effort of building a site from scratch. If you’re buying a site with pre-existing traffic, the goal is to increase the revenue of the site. You can do this by increasing conversions, by adding backend products or by getting more visitors.

Sell the Site

The final step is to sell the site for a profit. If you’re just selling a brand new site with no traffic, your site will likely go for about $100-$500. If you’re selling a site that’s making money, you’ll usually be able to get 10 months of profit upfront. For example, your website is making $100 a month; therefore you’ll get $1,000 for the website.
