Anyone starting an internet marketing project needs to conduct keyword research carefully to discover the most useful keywords associated with the particular niche that is being considered. There are a number of aspects to take into account when evaluating keywords. First, it is important to understand the nature of keywords. Here is a guide which can help with a better understanding of what they are and why they are important.

Keywords – What Are Keywords?

By Kerrie Sheehan

Starting your own internet business is far more than designing and creating a website to sell your products and/or services. Before you do anything you need to find out if people are buying your products online and more importantly how they will find your website to buy your products. Just having a website is only part of the story of making money online.

It is equally importantly that you know what your competition is selling. Is it possible for you to be able to successfully compete with them and maybe even do better than them? In the offline world it quite easy to work this out as all you have to do is watch your competition but this is not possible in the online world.

Then again maybe it is by doing some research into online activity. You have to find out how people are finding the websites of your competition by being able to access what they are searching for online.

People usually use the internet to search for information to answer questions about their problems and/or desires. It is not uncommon for people to turn to the internet for answers when they have not been able to find the answers elsewhere. So what you have is people who are desperate for information and answers about their most pressing problems. They want them solved so are more than willing to pay for a solution.

So how do these people go about finding the answer to their questions online?

These days lots of internet users rely upon the search engines like Google, Bing and Yahoo to help them search for solutions. However there are virtually hundreds of these search engines available for people to use but the top ones generate the majority of the traffic. It is therefore a good idea to concentrate on these top search engines to find out what people are searching for in regard to your products and/or services.

What are Keywords?

When a person uses a search engine they type in a word or more likely a phrase about their problem or what topic they want information about. These are keywords or keyword phrases. These words or phrases (keywords) are what you need to know so that you can design your website to target these thereby capturing some of this search engine traffic. The more targeted your website is to what people are searching for the more likely you are to generate sales.

How do search engines and keywords work?

A person might want to improve their golf swing so they type the phrase “improve golf swing” into a Google search. The search results page will show two types of results, paid and organic results. Try it by typing in “improve golf swing” in a Google search.

At the top of your page you will see sponsored links and also have a narrow column down the right hard side with more sponsored links. These are paid results where merchants have paid Google to list these results on search result pages for their keyword “improve golf swing”.

The rest of the results will be organic results or search results that Google has determined are the most naturally related to the phrase “improve golf swing”. The phrase “improve golf swing” is often referred to as a “keyword term”. You will also see that Google highlights the phase “improve golf swing” throughout the results.

As you can see if you can do some research and find these keyword terms that people search for in relation to your products then you be able to build your website to maximize your business opportunities from search engine traffic.

This means Google will determine your website to be naturally related to certain keyword terms you have optimized your website for and thus list you in their organic search results. The closer you can get to the top of the search engine results for your keyword terms the more traffic you will get to your website.

Also after you identify the keywords that are applicable to your products and/or services you can also launch a paid advertising campaign and have your website listed in the paid results as well as the organic results thereby dominating the search results for those keywords.

However one must be aware of the level of competition for some keywords and not pay too much for them as it is very easy, especially for new advertisers, to end up spending more money than they get back in product sales.

New website owners may want to wait until they have a more established website with results in the organic search listings before attempting paid advertising because they will then know that their keywords work. Just do keyword research and optimise your website for them until you see that they are working for you.

Keywords are vital to the success of your online business. Knowing the keywords relevant to your business and optimizing your website for them will mean more traffic to your website and thus more product sales. For more information about making money online http://www.kerriesheehan.com

The desire to make money from home online is understandable, given the numerous advantages. However, many techniques require special training. Strategies to Make ‘Money From Home’ That You As a Beginner Must Avoid at All Cost, Or You Will Fail

By Alfred Sant

As a beginner it is very hard to tell which is an authentic system, method or technique to make money from home online. If you choose the wrong program then you will end up just wasting your time without being able to learn how to make any money out of it.

Through this article we will look at the most common techniques to generate money from home for beginner that you should stay away from. If you are trying to make money through internet, then read closely:

Survey Filling: It is trap to collect information and a big scam on the internet. If you believe that you can make thousands of dollar by just filling couple of survey forms then you either must be quite naive or leaving in world of dreams. It only generates money for those that get you to buy their courses.

CPA Network: Here you make money depending on the leads that you generate for the advertiser. Even though it is quite an easy task, it requires you to generate a huge traffic flow to make money which can be a bit difficult for a beginner.

AdSense: It works like CPA does, but is solely managed by the Google Network. Tons of money could be made, provided you are able to generate a huge traffic to your website on daily basis. Generally each click go from as few pennies to a few dollars, so to generate decent money you need to have thousands of clicks. This can be not so easy for the beginners so it is better that you do not get involved in such programs at initial level.

E-commerce Websites: this is the type of internet marketing business through which you sell products online. It is highly profitable but is quite complicated and mind numbing as well and even more for beginners. It require you to be a very active marketer.

In e-commerce you have to be involved dealing with manufacturers, handling inventory, shipping, taking care of return policy, customer complaints and lot of other complex task. As a newbie you should not get into this type of business but once you become a pro you should definitely try your luck.

PPC Method: PPC or pay-per-click as we all know is is a very profitable way to make money, and tons of it, but it can also be quite risky. Through PPC you basically pay for the traffic that go to your website.

So as we conclude we have seen that many strategies can be quite profitable but as a newbie you need to learn lot of things before getting involved in every level of internet marketing. Affiliate marketing using FREE traffic generation techniques is basically the most appropriate way to begin in the online world as it is easy and require no investment.

A LOT OF MONEY can be made on the internet; it’s not hard once you know how things work. Obviously, you’ll need a sound PROGRAM to follow.

If you are serious about changing your life on the internet, go to my website Internet Income. Most Internet programs are garbage or scams, and unless you have the time and money to test them all out, you’ll basically go round in circles, and ‘LOSE MONEY’. The ability to automatically do on-page SEO for blogs is an important, time-saving exercise and two of the most popular plugins for this are All-In-One SEO and Platinum SEO. Platinum SEO Vs All in One SEO For WordPress Websites

By Delwin Holeman

WordPress has a number of plugins for Search Engine Optimization (SEO). There are two main plugins that most sites use which I’ll discuss in this article. Read on and you’ll come away with a better understanding of which one might be best for bringing more traffic to your dental office website.

Platinum SEO and All in One SEO Pack are the leaders in the SEO Plugin category for WordPress. All in One SEO has been around longer and in fact Platinum SEO was built to function practically the same as All in One SEO. They are almost identical, but Platinum SEO made some important improvements.

So why choose one over the other? Personally I’ve chosen to use Platinum SEO for the following reasons:

  1. Platinum SEO feature a setting to ” Automatically do 301 redirects for permalink changes”. This means that if you change the Permalink of one of your web pages, it will put some code in a special “.htaccess” file that tells Google, other search engines, and any backlink traffic, that the old page URL should now go to the new one.
  2. Perhaps my biggest reason for going with Platinum SEO is that it allows me to give a single page a “noindex” setting to keep search engines away from a page I don’t want listed. ALl in One SEO does not have that feature.
  3. It has a number of other “on-page” settings and options that All in One lacks, which gives you more control for each and every page you create. You can leave the basic settings in place so you are not having to set up each page one by one, but if you want to tweak something it’s all right there on your page editing screen.
  4. Okay, this one is a bit nit picky, but it did figure in to my decision to switch. All in One SEO is riddled with advertisements and requests for donations. Nothing wrong with that and almost all plugins do it, but All in One is a bit over board with it.

If you’re already using All in One SEO, Platinum SEO has the ability to migrate all of your current settings into it’s own setup, so you can do a quick and easy migration of your page title tags, page descriptions and keywords.

So in closing, the main reason I made the switch was for the ability to set a single page as “nofollow” to keep search engines from indexing it. Aside from that they are both about the same, and appear to do equally good jobs at SEO.

I design and build custom WordPress websites for medical and dental practices at my company, ID Web and Print.

4 Secrets to Increase Search Engine Ranking Today

By Dominic Tay

Do you want to increase search engine ranking to boost your traffic and sales?

SEO isn’t as complicated as many people think. What I’ve discovered is that when you know the insider secrets, you can literally dominate any keywords and boost search engine rankings of any websites that you have.

How do I know? Simple: Using the exact secrets you’re about to learn here, I’ve easily dominated Google and achieved high search engine rankings for the super-competitive “article submission” keyword with my website at ArticleSubmitAuto.com.

Here are the 4 proven secrets to increase search engine ranking for your keywords:

Secret 1: Write and Publish Articles

Write a high quality article related to the subject of your website and submit it to the top 30 article directories and other ezine publishers.

Remember to include your website link in the resource box of your articles so that when your articles are published, they will provide high quality backlinks to your websites.

Why are backlinks important?

You see, major search engines like Google determines the ranking of your web page largely through the quality and quantity of internet sites that link to yours. Generally, the higher the authority levels of the incoming links, the higher the link popularity of your website, the greater your search rankings.

So by having authoritative article directories like EzineArticles linking back to your websites, it will definitely help give your website the extra boost in rankings and traffic.

Secret 2: Use the Same Keyword for All Your Backlinks

Forget about what other people say about “link diversity” – that is, creating backlinks to your websites using different keywords to make it look more natural to the search engines.

Through expensive trial and error, I realized that it doesn’t matter. In fact, I’ve discovered that by concentrating all your efforts in building backlinks with the same keyword, you’ll get faster and better results.

Secret 3: Use The Same URL for All Your Backlinks

Look at these URLs:

http://www.yourdomain.com

http://yourdomain.com

Strangely, even though the above URLs all lead to the same page, search engine treat them as different pages. So decide if you want to use “www” during backlinking and stick to it.

Secret 4: Spy On Your Competitors

Do a search on your targeted keyword in Google to find out which are the web sites that are ranking the highest. What you need to do is to find out which websites are linking to them, and try to get the exact same websites to link to you.

Reverse engineering the high search engine rankings of these websites is the best method to boost search engine rankings for your own sites.

You can find out who is linking to them by using backlinkwatch.com. This will return the number of internet sites that are providing backlinks to your competitors. By visiting each of them, you may be able to pick up a good number of quality internet sites that you can also approach and get them to link to you.

Alternatively, you can have someone to find and build these high authority backlinks to your website right away and improve search engine ranking, by checking out this proven backlink building service at http://backlinksautomation.com now.

5 Tips – SEO Friendly Titles

How often do we come across websites that have the same title and descriptions on each and every page? The answer is….hardly. Although this mistake is seen all of the time by those of us who work on Search Engine Optimization (SEO) for a living, those who are searching using search engines will unlikely find your site unless you are spending tons of money on your adword campaign.

If you have 5 pages in your website, and each has the same title and description, you are losing out in 80% of market visibility. Not only is variety important to attract as many potential customers as possible, adding variety to your web page is very easy and it can make your website rise in ranks. The following are 5 tips to help you add variety to your website through effective title and description implementation.

1. First things first, Google and other search engines hate repeat information. Repeat information tells search engines that your site may be a spam site since your descriptions may not coincide with the information provided in each page. You will effectively drop in ranks quickly if you do not solve this issue immediately.

Remember that dropping in ranks is a lot easier than rising in them. This not only applies to your head tags such as your title and descriptions, but also affects your content as well. Look through your site and find which pages look like mirrors of each other, which pages can be deleted, and which can have more variety added to make them unique.

2. If you are working with a template, be effective in how you add your head tags. Be sure your title and descriptions are enclosed inside of an editable region, otherwise, your title and description will not only repeat throughout your site, but you will have a tough time editing them in the future without making a change in your template code, then still having to go back through each page and making the required changes.

3. Your choice of Titles and descriptions should be complemented with keyword research which you can easily do using Google’s free keyword tool. Make sure you incorporate your keywords inside of your title and description and yes….your content too. Be sure to practice good judgment when selecting keywords to make sure you don’t pick overly-competitive keywords.

Although they may work well with your Adword campaign, very competitive keywords should be avoided for organic results. Otherwise, ranking on the first few pages of a search engine result will be close to impossible.

4. Target a different search terms for each page. People don’t always land on your home page. This means you should consider each page in your website as a landing page and provide content accordingly.

You want to give them a short overall idea of what your company is about, providing a link to your home page in case they want to read more about it, but focus the bulk of your content to the search at hand. You want to your visitor’s search relevant.

If they are searching for “liposuction medical procedures,” they want to read about “liposuction medical procedures.” Adding content that they can find in other places of your site may confuse them and they may loose interest.

5. Don’t repeat your company name on your titles unless your company name utilizes searchable key terms. Your titles are amongst the most important tool used by search engines to find your site, so do not fill them with needless information.

Rather choose brief statements that have your keywords incorporated, and that have an enticing marketing message that will make a reader want to click on your site. Unless you are a big, and highly recognized company, chances are that most searchers will not be searching for your company name.

Many people want more info about Search Engine Optimization, so have a look at this. I am often searching for articles, news and other useful content which helps people to increase and have a more enjoyable online business. Be sure to look over it all. Don’t forget to offer your advice so we can all read your opinions:

—————–

Understanding Search Engine Optimization And Seo Services

It can be quite confusing for local business owners to understand search engine optimization and SEO services. With everyone claiming to be a professional it can be hard to judge a SEO company for quality. That is why you need to start getting educated.

Understand Search Engine Optimization and SEO Services in 3 Easy Steps

1. Keyword Research
Before you go and hire a company to do ’search engine optimization’ you need to understand that there are good keywords and bad keywords.

A lot of people go for the two extremes when it comes to keyword research. They feel that they have to be on the first page of Google for major keyword of their niche (which also happens to be the most competitive) or they want to rank for keywords that they think they need to rank for (but actually receive no traffic).

When you try to analyze keywords without the right tools it can be quite hard, but most SEO experts will use one or more seo keyword research tools that will tell you each related keyword and the amount of times that it is searched (plus the competition you will have if you try to rank for that keyword).

2. On Page SEO
Once you understand that there are good and bad keywords to target the focus turns to your website and optimizing the pages to your chosen ‘good keywords’.

There is a lot of theory when it comes to the optimization of your actual website for search engine optimization and SEO services providers will be able to help you with this. But a few quick points that are important are:

- Make sure your keyword is in your ‘page title
- Include your keyword in [h1, h2, h3] tags (Paragraph Titles)
- Link to that page from your other pages (using the keyword as anchor text)

But from a usability point of view, make sure that you keep your website personable and visitor focused. There is nothing worse than going to a website that you know has been written for search engines.

3. Off Page SEO
Once your website is fully optimized you need to start looking to build your websites popularity. Google gives each link that you receive from another website a ‘weight’ and the more weight that you receive to a given page helps to improve your ranking in the search engines.

Some ways that you can gain links to your website are:

- Writing Articles
- Leaving Blog Comments
- Creating Link Bait
- Writing Guest Posts on Blogs

If you follow these three simple steps then you will start to see your website quickly climbing the search engine pages, ranking for the keywords that you desire.

Many people want more info about Search Engine Marketing, so have a look at this. As you might expect, much of my time is spent locating suitable graphics, videos and other worthwhile information which helps people to grow and have a more enjoyable online business. Be sure to peruse it all. Don’t forget to include your advice so we can all be aware of your thoughts:

—————–

Internet Marketing Newbie – What is Search Engine Marketing (SEM)?

This is a really good question for those people who are just starting out on their journey into the world of internet marketing. It always helps to understand what it is you are doing, and why you are doing it.

Search Engine Marketing, aka SEM, is a form of internet marketing that seeks to promote any given website by increasing its visibility with the search engines in their results pages through the use of paid placement, contextual advertising and paid inclusion. The New York Times has defined SEM as ‘the practice of buying paid search listings’.

Let us go back a minute and go over some of the types of paid placement. Forms of paid payment include “Pay Per Click” and “Cost Per Click”. “Pay Per Click” or PPC is a paid placement is an internet advertising model that is used on websites. This is where advertisers pay the host of the site only when their ad has been clicked on.

With a search engine, advertisers generally bid on keyword phrases relevant to the market they are trying to target. Content sites however, very commonly charge fixed prices per click rather than using a bidding system.

There are many PPC providers out there. The three largest ones that everyone knows are Google AdWords, Yahoo! Search Marketing and Microsoft adCenter. Websites that use PPC ads will display an advertisement when a keyword query matches and advertiser’s keyword list, or when a content site displays any relevant content.

These advertisements are called “sponsored links” or “sponsored ads”. They appear adjacent to or above any organic results on search engine results pages. The PPC model is really open to all kinds of abuse through what is called click fraud. Google and others have implemented automated systems to guard against abuse such as this from competitors and corrupt web developers.

“Cost Per Click” or CPC is the amount of money that advertisers pay a search engine and any other internet publisher for a single click on the ad that brings any one visitor to the site it is linked to. All three of these providers operate under the bid-based model. CPC varies in costs, depending on the search engine and the level of competition for any given keywords.

Did you know that in 2008, North American advertisers spend 13.5 million in US dollars on search engine marketing? That is a whole lot of money spent on advertising on the internet. It makes you wonder how all of it is being seen by potential customers.

I hope that this clears up the subject of search engine marketing a wee bit for you. By all means do your research and find out as much information as you can before you begin your advertising campaigns.

Free Keyword Research – How To Target Traffic

I was pleased to come across something interesting on Keyword Research and targeting traffic. I am frequently searching for news, articles, and other helpful information which aids people to increase and have a more satisfying online business. Be sure to take a look at it all. Don’t forget to provide your thoughts so everyone can know your thoughts:

—————–

Free Keyword Research – How To Target Traffic On The Cheap

Whatever technique you are using to get traffic to your site be it SEO or article marketing or social networking or PPC or anything else contextual, you know how important keyword research is in getting visitors to your site don’t you? There are a bunch of products that can automate this task but you’re on a tight budget and you want to get free keyword research to optimize your efforts.

Well free is a relative term. There are free tools but it means you have to put the time into using them and your time really has a cost. But when you’re first starting out it makes sense to use the free keyword tools just so you understand how the process works. It will help you evaluate the pay for products when you finally decide to go in that direction.

Over 80% of all traffic starts as a search which means you want to do whatever you can to be on the first page of that search engine, preferably above the fold because that’s as far down as 70% of the visitors go. Getting to that position is not only about using the correct keyword optimization but it is an important starting point.

So how do you rank on page 1? It starts with an idea for content. That content can be for the website or an article but this is the stuff that you want to rank for. Decide on a broad keyword for the article and then run it through one or two of the free tools to get keyword phrase ideas.

So where are these free keyword research tools? There are two that are very popular, Google’s External Keyword Tool and the free version of WordTracker. The two big differences between these tools is that Google will undoubtedly have more keywords listed but they will not have that great a list of long tail keywords. The second difference is Google will express the number of searches monthly while WordTracker shows daily.

So let’s say you have a site that promotes dog supplies. You might consider a piece of content on dog training because you have a number of products that fit into that category. Go to Google External Keyword and enter the general term dog training.

You’ll notice you get a long list of keywords and that dog training gets over 1.5 million searches each month. If you then open another browser and Google dog training you’ll see there are over 45 million results. Two things are important here. First broad keywords are not buying keywords, they are used by people looking for free information. Secondly, this keyword just has way too much competition with 45 million returns.

If you scroll down a little further you’ll find electric dog training collar with a little over 5,000 monthly searches. Do a Google search on that term and you’ll get 45,000 returns. Now we’re talking. The longer tail keyword is looking for a specific need to be filled, one that might be filled by your products. This is a better buying keyword.

Now if you did that same drill on WordTracker you would likely find even longer tailed keywords. The search volume won’t be as much but the keywords are buying keywords.

The last thing to check is the competition for the keyword. Some people will tell you to place the keyword in quotes and find the results of pages that have that exact keyword phrase. You can do that if you like but how many people do you know that search that way? None right?

What’s important is to see who is on the first page and if you have a chance to bump them. Firefox has a free SEO plugin that will show you the page rank and much more for each return.

If the first page is dominated by .gov, .edu or Wikipedia returns, you probably will not stand a chance because those will be considered authority sites. If however, you see articles from article directories or sites with a PR of 2 or less, give it a shot.

Yes all this is time consuming but that’s the cost of free keyword research.
